The clean transition should be treated as a pathway towards European competitiveness rather than a separate environmental goal, according to a new study from the Joint Research Centre (JRC), published on 01/07/2026.

The report “A Pathway to Europe's Competitiveness: The Clean Transition” examines how coordinated action across climate, energy, the circular economy, mobility, agri-food systems and biodiversity protection can strengthen a more resilient and resource-secure Europe.

“This report provides an overview of the challenges to be addressed and of the enablers that can support the clean transition while reinforcing the three pillars of the Competitiveness Compass (decarbonisation, innovation, strategic autonomy)”, states the JRC.
