Corporate sustainability reporting: adoption of revised standards, adding "new flexibilities" (Omnibus I)

The European Commission has adopted revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and a voluntary reporting standard for smaller companies, announced the institution on 03/07/2026.

Those standards, covering environment, social and governance issues, including climate change, biodiversity and human rights, provide information for investors and other stakeholders. They aim to "understand the sustainability-related risks to which companies are exposed and their impacts on people and the environment".

By delegated acts, part of the Omnibus I amending the Accounting Directive, the existed ESRS are amended to be "shorter, clearer and to add new flexibilities", notably by :
• "removing datapoints deemed least important for general purpose sustainability reporting ;
