French public Manufactures Nationales: the transition measures implemented by the CSR mission

"From the very start of the Manufactures Nationales on 1 January 2025, we decided to place a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) unit directly under the institution’s presidency. This enables us to take a cross-functional approach and to integrate issues relating to the ecological transition into our governance,” said Matéo d’Yvoire, head of this unit, to News Tank on 1 July 2026.

The institution, which comprises the Mobilier National (including the Gobelins, Beauvais and Savonnerie manufactures) and the Cité de la Céramique (Sèvres & Limoges), is “in fact, frugal and ‘low-carbon’ by nature”.

Indeed, “for nearly four centuries, we have preserved traditional methods of craftsmanship and artistic trades whilst developing contemporary creation, so that these objects stand the test of time,” explains Matéo d’Yvoire.

In practical terms, the gradual integration of ecological transition priorities has been achieved through several measures. Firstly, a carbon footprint assessment (Scope 3) carried out at six sites in 2023, followed by Sèvres and Limoges in 2024. In total, 6,300 tonnes of…
