Climate change: a sub-national advisory board set up within CHAMP; Anne Hidalgo appointed chair

The creation of a sub-national advisory council within the “CHAMP” coalition (Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships), strengthening cooperation between national, local and regional governments in the global response to the climate crisis, was announced on 25 June 2026 during London Climate Action Week.

Chaired by Anne Hidalgo, ambassador for the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and former mayor of Paris, this council aims to enable better coordinated implementation of actions to combat climate change, by integrating “for the first time” cities, states and regions into the coalition’s governance structure.

Through this new channel, the coalition’s strategic direction and priorities will be enriched by “local and regional realities”, bringing together representatives from cities and regions around the world - from large to smaller local authorities.
