Law against ultra-fast fashion: its adoption will make France “a pioneer in Europe” (Mathieu Lefèvre)

"If passed, this law will make France a pioneer within the European Union. With this bill, we are paving the way for a much-needed European initiative," said Mathieu Lefèvre, Minister of State for Ecological Transition, during the debate on the draft bill aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the textile industry, before the National Assembly on June 24, 2026.

This bill targeting ultra-fast fashion had been "eagerly awaited for over two years", as Anne-Cécile Violland, rapporteur for the Joint Committee's report on the bill, pointed out. "We are finally legislating on a model of consumption that has become unsustainable for our environment, our economy, our health and our societies. Today, we are laying the groundwork for a sovereign, innovative and sustainable textile industry."In practical terms, this ambition comes down to two concrete measures, explains Mathieu Lefèvre.
