Conservatoire du Littoral/LPO: a six-year partnership to protect French coastlines and lake areas

Preserving natural coastal and lakeside areas is the aim of the partnership agreement signed between the Conservatoire du Littoral and the Ligue de protection des oiseaux (LPO) on 19 June 2026.

Forming part of a “long-standing collaboration”, this six-year partnership will primarily aim to:
• advance scientific knowledge;
• protect habitats and areas and assess their conservation status;
• support public policy and raise public awareness.

To date, the LPO states that it manages or co-manages 14 protected sites belonging to the Conservatoire. Of these, “12 also have nature reserve status, illustrating the complementary nature of land ownership, regulatory protection and the management of these areas”.

This collaboration also forms part of the implementation of the National Strategy for Protected Areas, the National Biodiversity Strategy and the European Regulation on nature restoration, as well as various national action plans for flagship species.
