"Giving nature a voice in corporate governance: a landmark bill" (Charles Fournier, French MP)

"The bill aimed at ensuring nature is represented in corporate governance is part of a broader drive to transform business and bring about a game-changing shift in environmental policy. It is by tackling the very structure of business that we will succeed in driving change," MP Charles Fournier (Les Ecologistes), the bill's sponsor, told News Tank on 18 June 2026.

The bill, tabled in the National Assembly on 3 March 2026, seeks to "integrate nature at three levels":
• "on the board of directors, through two independent representatives, so that nature is included in the company's strategic decisions;
• at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, to ensure that environmental issues are taken into account as a matter of obligation;
• and finally in social and environmental dialogue, by setting up a dedicated committee within the Social and Economic Committee (CSE)," the MP explains.
