"France Crédits Biodiversité”: relaunch of a simplified national scheme financing ecological restoration

The guide “France Crédits Biodiversité”, which reviews and outlines the improvements to this relaunched national scheme designed to finance ecological restoration and accelerate corporate engagement, has been published by the French General Commission for Sustainable Development (CGDD), on 15/06/2026.

The evolution of this scheme, formerly known as ‘Natural Sites for Compensation, Restoration and Renaturation’ (SNCRR), was announced on 21/05/2026 by Mathieu Lefèvre, French Minister for Ecological Transition, at the ‘Roquelaure for Business and Biodiversity’ event, with a view to revitalising a fledgling sector.

Launched under its original name - SNC, or Natural Compensation Sites - in 2016, during which time only a single project had been launched, the scheme was introduced, with simplifications and improvements, under its SNCRR name as part of the Green Industry Act in 2024. It had enabled the launch of three restoration and conservation projects: the Cros du Mouton (Var), Cossure (Bouches-du-Rhône) and the Abbaye of Valmagne (Hérault).
