EDF Power Solutions: 1 GW of battery projects under development in France

EDF Power Solutions claims to have around 1 GW of battery storage projects under development in France, the group announced on the sidelines of the inauguration of Stockage Energie Catalan, its first battery in mainland France, on 11 June 2026.

“We aim to build 100 MW in 2026 and 170 MW in 2027. We are therefore in an acceleration phase,” says Catherine Bourg, Storage Coordinator at EDF Power Solutions.

“In France, we have observed an increase in the need for flexibility over the last few years, linked on the one hand to the growing electrification of end-use applications and on the other to the growing share of renewables in the electricity mix,” she adds.

EDF Power Solutions aims to capitalise on this “changing” landscape to accelerate its storage projects. Its initial projects will primarily be co-located at wind or solar farms already in the company’s portfolio.

The EDF subsidiary anticipates growth in this market. Between 4 and 6 GW of batteries will be connected in France by 2030, according to the company’s estimates.
