FR / Plastic recycling: French Minister M. Lefèvre launches consultations to structure the sector

Mathieu Lefèvre, the French Minister for Ecological Transition, will launch a national consultation with stakeholders on "structuring a more environmentally and economically efficient circular economy for plastics" on 28/05/2026.

This consultation was announced on 19/05 at the end of the meeting dedicated to the circular economy of the Ecological Planning Council, chaired by Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

The aim is to "discuss the implementation of concrete levers to improve France's performance in recycling plastic packaging". Among these levers, the Minister mentioned in particular the roll-out of the recycling deposit, which will be made compulsory on 01/01/2029 under the European Commission's PPWR Regulation.

Several meetings have already taken place, according to the Ministry, notably with plastics manufacturers, representatives of local authorities, members of Parliament, associations and researchers.
