TotalEnergies is among the oil and gas sector's "pioneers" in diversifying its portfolios to include renewable energy projects, particularly wind power generation, according to GlobalData, an analysis and consultancy company, on the occasion of the publication of its "Renewable Energy in Oil and Gas" report on 26/05/2026.

TotalEnergies detains 34.1 GW of gross installed renewable electricity capacity worldwide in 2025, and has produced 31.4 TWh of renewable electricity.

BP and Shell are also cited by the platform's analysts. "Although the pace of investment in renewables by oil and gas companies has moderated over the past year - with, for example, BP recently pulling out of its Beacon Wind project offshore New York, and Equinor adjusting its targets due to financial challenges - these companies continue to outperform their US counterparts," GlobalData says.

According to GlobalData's data, renewable electricity generation stood at 7,400 TWh in 2020 and is expected to reach 16,100 TWh in 2030. At the same time, the share of fossil fuels is set to fall from 62% in 2020 to 50% in 2030.
