Waste-to-energy: "Transforming a punitive tax into an incentive tax" (Corentin Duprey, Syctom)

"The local authorities with whom we work, whatever their political color, are asking, alongside Syctom, for a punitive TGAP (Taxe Générale sur les Activités Polluantes) to be transformed into an incentive TGAP, geared towards prevention and innovation, in order to prepare for the future; for the carbon tax to be geared towards research to capture carbon from waste-to-energy plants; and finally, to reduce packaging and put an end to non-recyclable and toxic substances. In France, the economic model of local authorities is under threat, and we need to be careful," Corentin Duprey, Chairman of the Syctom, told News Tank on 27/05/2026.

The Syctom handles the treatment and recovery of household and similar waste in the Île-de-France region. "On a national scale, 14 TWh of energy are produced every year from waste, enough to power 3 million homes. At the Syctom, our three waste-to-energy plants supply 300,000 homes", says Corentin Duprey.
