EDF power solutions UK has launched a second consultation on its South Brooks Solar Farm proposal in Kent, running from 28/05/2026 to 09/07/2026. The 500 MW solar and battery energy storage (BESS) project, which could supply electricity to up to 140,000 homes in Kent, is planned on a 1,094 ha site in the Kent countryside.

Results from the first public consultation, held in September 2025, showed strong public concern over the size and location of the project, part of which would be developed on Grade 1 and 2 agricultural land.

The revised plans reduce the developable area by 20% and increase land dedicated to ecology and landscaping by 25%. Some 43 ha adjacent to RSPB Dungeness would be allocated to biodiversity measures. The consultation will run for six weeks ahead of a Development Consent Order (DCO) application planned for early 2027.

EDF power solutions UK said feedback from stakeholders and environmental studies had informed the updated design of the project.“We are grateful to everyone who shared their views with us last year. Consultation is a vital part of our design process…
