MEP Bas Eickhout, co-Chair of the Green / EFA Group, resigns from European Parliament

The Dutch MEP Bas Eickhout, co-Chair of the Green Group at the European Parliament, announced his resignation from his mandate on 20/05.

“After careful consideration, I have decided today to resign from my position as a Member of the European Parliament for the PRO and as co-chair of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament", declared Eickhout on BlueSky on 20/05.

A MEP during 17 years, Bas Eickhout was, until 20/05, the green Shadow Rapporteur on the EU ETS regulation. During his previous mandate, he had been the lead negotiator for the Greens on the "Fit for 55" package, in particular on the reform of the EU ETS (adopted in April 2023), the creation of ETS2 (buildings and transport) and the CBAM (carbon border adjustment mechanism).
