“It is more important than ever to continue raising awareness of the reality of global warming and its impacts. We are facing today both an environmental backlash and the full effects of global warming ”, said Jean Jouzel, paleoclimatologist and IPCC expert, at the press conference launching the Journées Thématiques of the French Météo & Climat association, to be held in Paris on 09-10/06/2026.

“In 2015, when the Paris Agreement was signed, the mood within the scientific community was more optimistic than it is today. It was a well-framed agreement, even though we already knew it would be difficult to meet its objectives,” he said.

“Today, at the time of the second milestone, with countries’ trajectories pointing towards +3°C warming by 2100 and with +1.5°C now out of reach, the mood is far more pessimistic. This is compounded by an unprecedented hostility towards scientific discourse, particularly in the United States. That is why it is essential to continue organising events such as these Journées,” added Jean Jouzel, who also chairs the Météo et Climat association.
