“Renaturation is still a relatively uncommon practice, but it is set to become widespread, as it is central to the adaptability of territories and climate resilience. We want to act as a provider of tools for the land transition,” says Jean Guiony, urban planner and chairman of the Institut de la Transition Foncière, in his introduction to the presentation of the renaturation reference framework on 12/05/2026 at the Académie du Climat, in Paris.

“The guidelines make it possible to integrate soil considerations throughout the project. Renaturation is defined as the restoration of the functions of urban, industrial, transport, military or mining land,” explains Zoé Raimbault, coordinator of the Land Transition Chair at the Institut de la Transition Foncière.

“First, when selecting a site, it is necessary to determine the type of renaturation use that will be developed there. Will it be a biodiversity reserve, a rainwater retention area or an urban agriculture site?
