European Commission: a call to gather views on the potential for industrial biotech and biomanufacturing

The European Commission launched a call to gather views on the potential for industrial biotechnology and biomanufacturing in the EU, announced the institution on 18/05/2026.

Until 10/06, companies, professionals, experts, academics and citizens are invited to share the main challenges and bottlenecks they encounter and suggestions to address them, specifies the Commission.

This feedback will inform the Commission's preparation of the Biotech Act II proposal, which was announced in the 2026 work programme and aims to create an "enabling environment for EU industrial biotechnology and biomanufacturing to build a strong business case". This proposal complements other initiatives, such as the Bioeconomy Strategy and Biotech Act I, which focus on health and have already been published. Biotech Act II will follow in 2026.
