European Commission: 14 new State aids approved to support transitions - News Tank summary N°2

The European Commission has approved 14 State aid schemes for 9 Member States to support environmental and energy transitions, since the first 2026 summary published by News Tank on April 2026. Since the beginning of 2026, 32 State aid schemes of 17 States were approved.

Germany is the country that has received the highest number of approved schemes (3) for a total amount of €10,1Bn. Spain has 2 new schemes approved and one amended, originally approved in 2022 (with an overall budget of €8.51Bn).

Regarding the dotation, Germany has received the highest amount, with €5Bn to help companies in industrial sectors decarbonise their production processes, and with €3,8Bn to provide temporary electricity price relief for energy-intensive companies. Czechia comes next, with €3,7Bn dedicated to the construction of biomethane production stations.

The majority of the aid instrument is made of direct grant, tax advantages, two-way contract or a compensation for a share of the companies' electricity costs.
