Lanzatech: Port of Ghent selected as permanent site for its commercial-scale SAF production facility

Lanzatech has selected the Port of Ghent (North Sea Port) in Belgium as the permanent site for its Europe's commercial-scale alcohol-to-jet Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) future plant, announced the biotech company specialized in SAF production, on 11/05/2026.

Lanzatech, member of the FLITE consortium (Fuel via Low carbon Integrated Technology from Ethanol, supported by EU Horizon 2020 funding), specifies that this €500M projet "targets 79 000 tonnes of SAF and 9 000 tonnes of renewable diesel annually".

According to Cas König, CEO of North Sea Port, "this investment confirms our strategy to fully commit to the energy transition and the circular economy. With Lanzatech, we are not only bringing a pioneering technology company to Ghent, but we are also strengthening our role as a port in promoting sustainable growth, innovation and high-quality employment".
