"The Commission will continue to propose simplification measures for our industries" (Stéphane Séjourné)

"Building our energy independence and avoiding decarbonisation is the right solution", says Stéphane Séjourné, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy. He was speaking as part of an exchange with MEPs from the European Parliament's Environment Committee on 05/05/2026.

"In this context, decarbonisation and competitiveness cannot be pitted against each other. To this end, the Commission has put forward proposals to simplify matters for our European industries and will continue to do so. At the same time, we will continue to improve the minimisation of PFAS emissions through instruments that do not undermine competitiveness."

"The Commission has made commitments regarding PFAS," he added.
• "To allow industry to continue to use them when the objective of replacement or diversification is impossible or when they have no impact on consumers.
• At the same time, we need to be very strict on PFAS that are in contact with consumers.
This is the line we are going to try to implement with our reforms", said Stéphane Séjourné.
