"The competition to decarbonise is very healthy," Patrick Peters, CEO of Spark Cleantech, told News Tank on 24/04/2026. "However, some processes cannot be electrified."

"As for green hydrogen, it has an intrinsic cost linked to the price of electricity. We believe in technological complementarity, but our model is based on creating value to finance decarbonisation. Our strength lies in the fact that there are no extra costs or equipment modifications for manufacturers."

The start-up specialising in methane plasmalysis, a process that breaks down methane into green hydrogen and carbon, raised €30M in October 2025.

With this funding, it hopes to continue developing its process for decarbonising the heavy industry. The process uses a filter to replace the combustion of hydrocarbons in high-temperature industrial furnaces and in the production of materials.
