"Our meeting for the G7 Environment track is not just another international gathering. We want it to be a collective success and a truly transformative moment for action. I hope we can send a strong message of unity and ambition", declared Monique Barbut, French minister of ecological transitions, ahead of the first working session of the G7 Environment, held in Paris under the French Presidency on 23 and 24/04/2026.

"As we are seeing every day in the news, we live in complicated times, where the protection of the environment is no longer on top of the international agenda. At the same time, the science is clear : our climate is warming, natural disasters are killing our citizens, destroying our homes and damaging our economies", she said.

"Nature is being increasingly damaged through pollution and habitat loss. This has potentially dramatic economic consequences. This is the message I conveyed yesterday to representatives of the B7 [which represents the interests of the G7 business community] and the private sector and they assured me of their full mobilization to go forward".
