EC: Carmen Preising new Director within DG Mare ; J. Katainen, special adviser for EU-Arctic relations

Carmen Preising is appointed as Director for General Affairs and Resources within the DG MARE, announced the European Commission on 13/04/2026.

"This department works to ensure a healthy ocean, sustainable fisheries, a thriving, sustainable blue economy, and vibrant coastal communities across Europe. The date of effect will be determined later".

Carmen Preising is currently Head of Unit for Interinstitutional Matters, Strategic Programming and Communication in DG MARE. She previously served as Head of Cabinet to the Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius (2019-2024).

Before this, she was Head of Unit for the Commission Work Programme and Stakeholder Consultation at the Secretariat-General, and earlier Head of Unit responsible for consultative committees, the Ombudsman and relations with national parliaments, also in the Secretariat-General.

Before joining the European Commission in 2003, she worked at the European Parliament, the German Bundestag and various international organisations.
