European Commission: Member State aids approved since January 2026 to support environmental transitions

Since the beginning of 2026, the European Commission has approved 18 State aid schemes to 12 Member States, according to the data compiled by News Tank.

Spain is the country that has received the highest number of approved schemes (5) for a total amount of €3,48Bn. France has 3 schemes approved.

Regarding the dotation, Italy has received the highest amount, with €6Bn for the production of renewable hydrogen in the transport and industrial sector. Denmark comes next, with €5Bn dedicated to the construction and the operation of two offshore wind farms (Hesselø and North Sea I Mid).

The majority of the aid instrument is direct grant, tax advantages or fixed premium.

Among the aids :
• 6 aim to support cleantech manufacturing capacity for net-zero technologies or for the production of renewable energies;
• 4 are linked to the renewable production of hydrogen for diverse sectors (fertilisers, transport, industry) ;
• 3 schemes are about electricity storage capacity or to support energy intensive companies ;
• 2 schemes support decarbonisation of industries or industrial processes ;
• 2 schemes…
