Canada's Prime Minister Carney launches a €2.3bn strategy to "protect and restore nature"

Mark Carney, the Canadian Prime Minister launched "A Force of Nature", a national strategy with a €2.3Bn (CAD$3.8 bn) investment, to "protect and restore critical habitats, ensure industrial strategies complement our conservation efforts, and mobilise new capital for nature", on 31/03/2026.

"As Canadians, we have the responsibility to protect the lands and waters we have inherited", says Mark Carney. "With unprecedented conservation efforts, the power of modern technology, and the wisdom of Indigenous traditions, our new nature strategy will protect what matters most and build a stronger, more sustainable Canada."

The plan is based on three pillars:
• Protection and conservation of lands, waters, habitats and biodiversity;
• building responsibly with infrastructure design fit for nature protection;
• and using finance tools to fund conservation in a "sustainable and long-term way".

"Canadians’ longstanding commitment to nature is undeniable, and our government is steadfast in its goal of protecting 30% of our lands and waters by 2030", says Nathalie Provost, Secretary of State.
