Tyres: changes to eco-organisation specifications to support retreading (French Journal Officiel)

The specifications of the eco-organisations and coordinating bodies for the extended producer responsibility (EPR) tyre sector have been amended by the order of 25/03/2026, published in the Journal Officiel of 27/03.

This order provides for "financial support for tyre retreading operations in order to accelerate the development of this recovery method within the sector", the text states. Retreading a tyre extends its life by replacing the worn rubber with a new one, while preserving the carcass.

For 2028, the minimum percentage of tyres that must be retreaded has been reduced to 5%, compared with 10% in the previous order for 2023.

The minimum amount of support to be provided to operators by the eco-organisations concerned is set at €6 per used tyre placed on the national market that has undergone a retreading operation. The retreading operation must have been carried out less than 1,500 km from the place where the tyres were collected.
