TotalEnergies: US offshore wind projects halted following agreements with DOI

TotalEnergies is putting an end to the development of its offshore wind projects in the United States after signing agreements with the US Department of the Interior (DOI) to return, with its partners, the Carolina Long Bay (1 GW) and New York Bight (3 GW) concessions, awarded in 2022, the energy company announced on 23/03/2026.

" Studies carried out by the company on these concessions have shown that, unlike in Europe, the development of offshore wind projects in the United States is costly and likely to have a negative impact on electricity prices for American consumers. TotalEnergies therefore believes that it is not worth allocating capital to these projects, as other technologies are more cost-effective in meeting the growing demand for electricity in the United States," says the group.

TotalEnergies will recover the royalties paid under these concessions and has announced that it will invest the amounts recovered in the construction of the 29-Mt Rio Grande LNG plant and the development of its oil and gas activities.
