TotalEnergies inaugurates France's first chemical plastic recycling plant, on the site of the former GrandPuits refinery in Seine-et-Marne, on 19/03/2026.

Using nine pyrolysis reactors based on technology developed by British partner Plastic Energy, TotalEnergies aims to eventually produce 15,000 tonnes of Tacoil a year, a 100% recycled substitute for naphtha, the petroleum derivative found in plastics.

"GrandPuits, which ceases operations in 2021, was the only oil refinery in the Ile-de-France region. With this plastic recycling activity, as well as the biorefinery that will be producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in a few months' time, the plant is continuing its transformation into a zero-oil platform," explains Guillaume Alliot, General Manager of the Grandpuits-Gargenville industrial platform.

"We are already injecting photovoltaic electricity into the grid, thanks to our PV platform, and we are also storing 43 MW thanks to our battery energy storage system (BESS)".

The chemical recycling of the plastic will be carried out by 45 TotalEnergies employees from the original…
