Public consultation open for the review of the EU Taxonomy until 14/04/2026 (Commission)

The Commission announced the launch of a public consultation on the EU Taxonomy, the classification system for sustainable economic activities, on 17/03/2026. The call, open until 14/04/2026, aims to gather feedbacks before possible revisions of the criteria of this EU legislation.

The EU Taxonomy Regulation is defined by the Commission as the "cornerstone of the EU’s sustainable finance framework". It defines the conditions under which an economic activity is considered "sustainable" or not.

Three delegated acts have already been published by the European Commission to set some criteria, including:
• an Environmental Delegated Act, establishing criteria for economic activities "making a substantial contribution to one or more of the non-climate environmental objectives, namely: sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources, transition to a circular economy, pollution prevention and control and protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems."
