Agenda: events not to be missed between 16 and 20/03/2026

This week's highlights are the Environment, Energy and European Councils that will take place in Brussels on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The Environment Council, the first one of the Cyprus Presidency, will have many crucial topics on the agenda, including the bioeconomy strategy and the CO2 emissions standards of cars and vans.

The ENVI Committee of the Parliament will also proceed on several votes on Tuesday and will hold a debate on the extension of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

UN representatives will come to Belgium next week, with Simon Stiell, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, meeting Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra, and António Guterres, UN Secretary General, participating in the European Council on Thursday to meet with heads of State.

From Tuesday to Friday, a Bioeconomy Conference and Exhibition will take place in Fribourg (Switzerland), while the city of Thessaloniki, in Greece, will host the 2026 Blue Heritage Summit.
