Julien Viau has been appointed deputy director of the office of Monique Barbut, Minister for Ecological Transition, Biodiversity and International Negotiations on Climate and Nature, with effect from 09/03/2026, according to an order dated 06/03/2026 published in the Journal officiel on 12/03/2026.

Julien Viau, chief engineer of bridges, water and forests, has been deputy director of climate action at the DGEC since 2024.

He succeeds Benjamin Carantino, who has been deputy head of Monique Barbut's office since October 2025 and has been head of the office of Maud Bregeon, Minister for Energy reporting to Roland Lescure, Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industrial, Energy and Digital Sovereignty, since 04/03/2026.
