A four-week public call for evidence is launched to "help design a comprehensive new strategy for the EU's islands", announces the European Commission on 09/03/2026.

"Announced in the cohesion policy mid-term review of 01/04/2025 and highlighted in the European Ocean Pact of June 2025, this strategy will strengthen resilience, boost competitiveness and address the specific socio-economic challenges faced by islands across the EU", specifies the Commission.

Indeed, the EU's islands "face structural challenges linked to their insularity, including economic vulnerability and demographic pressures, restricting their capacity for sustainable growth and resilience".

Through this consultation, open until 01/04/2026, the Commission aims to :
• identify key priorities,
• assess the performance of existing EU policies and legislation,
• and explore ways to better respond to the needs of islands.
