Only 1 out of 196 national reports on biodiversity submitted prior to preparatory meeting to COP17

Only the European Union submitted its seventh national report on biodiversity, due by 28/02/2026, as the sixth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI-6) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) opens in Rome, on 16/02/2026.

This meeting is taking place nine months before the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in Yerevan (Armenia) from 19 to 30/10/2026. The national reports aim to review the progress made in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, as COP17 will undertake the first global review of collective progress in its implementation.

"I urge Parties to submit their National Reports on time so that we can have a robust first global review guiding action by all stakeholders in the race to 2030", says Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the CBD, on 16/02/2026.
