United Kingdom: CfDs awarded for 6.2 GW of renewable energy projects; "the largest auction ever held".

The UK Government is awarding CfDs for 6.2 GW of solar, onshore wind and tidal projects in the UK's largest ever renewable energy tender (AR7), it announced on 10/02/2026.

A total of 157 solar projects (4.9 GW), 28 onshore wind projects (1.3 GW) and four tidal projects (20.9 MW) have been secured. These are in addition to the 12 offshore wind projects (8.4 GW) secured in January 2026. "Combined with the January results for offshore wind, the Government now has a total of 201 projects allocated, representing 14.7 GW of new clean capacity - enough to power the equivalent of 16 million homes," says the UK Government. This makes Allocation Round 7 (AR7) the largest ever award of CfD contracts in the UK, both in terms of capacity and the number of projects secured.

New onshore wind was contracted at a price of £72.24/MWh (€82.94) and solar at £65.23/MWh (€74.89), "less than half the £147/MWh (€168.77) estimated cost of building and operating new gas-fired power stations", according to calculations by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
