India allocates €2.2Bn for to support local deployment of CCUS technologies

The Government of India announced a dedicated allocation of around 2.2 Bn euros over the next five years for CCUS technologies in its Union Budget 2026-2027, presented on 01/02/2026. This funding aims to support the deployment and scaling of CCUS technologies in India, especially in targeted, hard-to-abate industrial sectors, including power, steel, cement, chemicals and refineries.

"As a green initiative, the CCUS programme aims to reduce carbon emissions by either storing or reusing it so that captured carbon dioxide does not enter the atmosphere", declares the Indian government in its press statement.

Along with this initiative, Nirmala Sitharaman, India's Finance Minister, also announced:

• Three new dedicated Chemical Parks to "enhance domestic chemical production and reduce import dependency";
• A scheme to revive 200 existing industrial clusters, including those from the chemicals and petrochemicals sectors, to "improve their cost competitiveness and efficiency through infrastructure and technology upgradation".
