"The growth of the global economy has been at the cost of immense biodiversity loss" (IPBES report)

"The growth of the global economy has been at the cost of immense biodiversity loss, which now poses a critical and pervasive systemic risk to the economy, financial stability and human wellbeing", states to the IPBES Business and Biodiversity Report, released on 09/02/2026.

"This is the first time anybody has looked along all the way so that you can understand businesses' relationship with biodiversity", Matt Jones, co-chair said. "This assessment evaluates approaches for measurement of impacts and dependencies of businesses on biodiversity and discusses how such information can be used to improve outcomes for biodiversity and Nature’s contributions to people".

He added that "importantly, this is the first time that such a report has been presented and agreed upon with 150 governments", during the 12^th session of IPBES plenary, hosted from 03 to 08/02 in Manchester.
