Overseas territories / France: wetland conservation strategy published by the French Committee (IUCN)

The proposed overseas strategy for the 4^th National Wetlands Action Plan (2024-2030) was published by the French Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), on behalf of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, on 04/02/2026.

According to this committee, "the introduction to the strategy recalls a central conviction that emerged from discussions with stakeholders: the preservation and restoration of wetlands are inseparable from the resilience of territories and the safety of populations".

With "nearly 900 proposals, ranked in order of priority", the roadmap is based on three pillars:
• Act: including ecosystem conservation, ecological restoration and sustainable resource management.
• Mobilising: bringing together and supporting local, national and international players to preserve wetlands, and supporting economic players in adopting good practice.
• Knowledge: this last area focuses on research and the acquisition of knowledge about wetlands.
