"Unlimited approval for 49 dangerous pesticides": NGOs ask the Commission for clarification on Omnibus X

"49 synthetic pesticides would receive unlimited approval if the Commission's Omnibus proposal on food and feed safety enters into force on 01/01/2027", declares Pesticide Action Network Europe in a release on 05/01/2026. It follows an analysis by the French association Générations Futures, a member of PAN Europe, of the substances that would be granted unlimited approval under the current Omnibus X proposal, presented by the Commission on 16/12/2025.

"After analyzing the status of the 421 approved active substances listed in the European pesticide database, Générations Futures concluded that 49 synthetic substances would benefit from the lifting of the time limit on their approval, without any additional assessment to scientifically support this decision", declares the association on 05/02/2026. "Among the substances concerned are glyphosate and acetamiprid, on which the European Commission hopes to save at least €605.500 and €176.100, respectively, as stated in its working document."
