EC: setting up of an "European Ocean Board" high-level expert group "to foster cross-sector dialogue"

The European Commission is setting up an "European Ocean Board" high-level expert group", according to a decision adopted on 05/02/2026, that News Tank was able to obtain, and released on 10/02.

This expert group is tasked to :
- "advise the Commission on the implementation of the European Ocean Pact (adopted on June 2025) ;
- issue opinions on specific issues related to the European Pact for the Oceans at the request of the Commission ;
- promote dialogue and the exchange of experiences among its members on ocean-related issues, with a particular focus on the consistency and synergy of EU policies and their compatibility with private sector initiatives", the Commission said to News Tank.

According to the decision, the group will be composed of up to approximately 25 members, each appointed for a maximum term of office of five years. The members will be appointed by the Director-General of the DG Mare (Maritime affairs and fisheries), from "applicant organisations who have proven and relevant competence and experience and have responded to the call for applications".
