Nuclear energy: a framework to stimulate the development of advanced reactors in the UK

Accelerating the development of advanced nuclear reactors, with the aim of becoming a world leader in this next-generation technology, is the aim of the strategic framework presented by the UK government on 04/02/2026.

The framework aims to accelerate the development of "pioneering" nuclear technology to fuel the growth of AI and develop the UK economy. The government will recognise the most credible advanced nuclear projects to facilitate private investment and enable their launch. "New nuclear projects could create thousands of jobs across the country as part of the 'golden age' of nuclear", say the authorities.

In practical terms, to attract private investment, the Government is launching a "pipeline" of projects deemed credible. A "concierge-style" service will help developers to understand the planning, regulatory and fuel requirements in the UK, as well as helping them to attract private investment.
