"As an integrated energy company, we are interested in fusion as a way of achieving carbon neutrality. Fusion is one of the possible ways of decarbonising our energy mix", said Edoardo Fiorentini, Head of development for magnetic fusion initiatives at Italian energy company Eni, on 04/02/2026. He was taking part in the conference "Is fusion coming faster and cheaper than expected?" organised by the Institut Français des Relations Internationales (Ifri) in Paris.

"The European Union remains a fragmented market compared with China," said Marc-Antoine Eyl-Mazzega, Director of Ifri's Energy and Climate Centre. Today, "China is mobilising as many people as the rest of the world on fusion. We want China to succeed. Major developments are expected in the coming years thanks to public-private partnerships. This year, with the France's G7 presidency, the discussion on standardisation will be central".

"The private sector plays an important role in speeding up commercialisation. (Edoardo Fiorentini, Eni)
