The EU endorses the Declaration on Information integrity on climate change launched at COP30

The European Union has endorsed the Declaration on Information integrity on climate change, following the Council's approval on 20/01/2026, it announced on 27/01.

The Declaration has been launched during COP30 in Brazil by Unesco, the Government of Brazil and the UN. It "establishes shared international commitments to address information integrity on climate change and promote accurate, evidence-based information on climate issues".

"This endorsement comes at a time when the information environment can be difficult to navigate, especially on climate matters", stressed the EU. The 2025 barometer on climate change showed that "52% Europeans say traditional media fail to provide clear information on the topic, and 49% report difficulty identifying reliable content on social media".

According to Commissioner for Climate, Net zero and clean growth, Wopke Hoekstra, "the threat of climate change is becoming ever more urgent and, at the same time, alternative truths, confrontation and disinformation abound.
