FR / Solar: "The industry is baffled by the government's attitude" (V. de l'Estang, SER)

"For years, our aim has been to succeed in deploying more and more capacity. Some people now believe that there is an overproduction of solar electricity at national level. But adding 6 TWh of solar or decarbonised production every year is a drop in the ocean compared with the needs", Vianney de l'Estang, Chairman of the Solar Commission of the French Renewable Energy Syndicate, told News Tank on 20/01/2026.

According to him, "the solar industry installed 5 GW in 2024 and probably 6 GW in 2025. The industry is ready and structured to be able to do this. Any reduction of the ambitions and objectives would be a sacrifice. Let's not forget that solar power currently represents 60,000 to 80,000 direct and indirect jobs in France".

However, "the government's hesitations are reflected in the absence of a Multiannual Energy Programme 3 (PPE3), France's energy roadmap for 2025-2035. Even the latest calls for tenders (solar on buildings and ground-mounted solar) have not been launched.
