FR / Environmental score for food products: "Only 16% of products are green" (Planet-score)

"The agri-food market has considerable room for improvement": this is the conclusion of the first analysis of the environmental quality of agrifood products, published by the French association Planet-score on 20/01/2026, based on data issued from the Quelproduit app, managed by French consumer association UFC-Que Choisir.

The analysis shows that "only 16% of food products are in the green zone" (Planet-score category A or B), including only 1% in category A, while 67% of products are in category D or E, the lowest categories. 27% of products are rated C, the average category.

The Planet-score ranks food products on several parameters: ingredients, their origins, farming or breeding methods, energy, packaging, transport, biodiversity, pesticide use, and climate factors based on the latest scientific data. Rolled out in France and Europe, it aims to combat greenwashing thanks to the use of 25 KPIs designed by scientists (a broad base from Ademe's Agribalyse, supplemented by other indicators relevant to the study).
