Offshore wind: complaint filed against the suspension of Vineyard Wind's (CIP/Avangrid) lease in the USA

Vineyard Wind will file a complaint against the lease suspension issued on 22/12/2025 by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, announced the 50/50 joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid (a subsidiary of Iberdrola), on 15/01/2026.

The company has filed a request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

"Vineyard Wind continues to engage with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and other relevant stakeholders and authorities within the government to understand the issues raised by the order", said the project developer.

However, "the company believes that this decision violates applicable law and that, in the absence of a prompt suspension, it would result in immediate and irreparable harm to the project, as well as to the communities that stand to benefit from this new source of electricity for the New England region".
