FR: fall of 1.7% of GHG emissions over the first nine months of 2025, -0.8 Mt CO2e for agriculture

GHG emissions in France are expected to fall by 1.7% over the first three quarters of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024, according to the French association Citepa barometer forecast published on 13/01/2025. Over the first nine months of the year, GHG emissions would amount to 270 Mt CO2e, a fall of 1.7% compared with 2024 (-4.7 Mt CO2e).

After an increase in the first quarter of 2025 (+0.7%), GHG emissions (excluding carbon sinks) fell in the second quarter (-2.6%) and then in the third quarter (-3.7%) compared with the same periods in 2024.

" This drop is mainly due to lower emissions from industry (-2 Mt CO2e) and transport (-1.4 Mt CO2e), and to a lesser extent from agriculture (-0.8 Mt CO2e) and buildings (-0.6 Mt CO2e). Emissions from energy, on the other hand, are rising very slightly (+0.2 Mt CO2e)", stated the Ministry for Ecological Transition, Biodiversity and International Negotiations on Climate and Nature.

Citepa forecasts that GHG emissions excluding carbon sinks could reach 363.4 Mt CO2e over the whole of 2025, a fall of 1.6% compared with 2024 emissions. If…
