Generali and UNIDO to cooperate on promoting sustainable coffee production in African countries

The Italian insurance group Generali and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) signed an agreement to promote sustainable coffee production in Africa under a programme called ACT (Advancing Climate-Resilience and Transformation in African Coffee), on 12/01/2026.

The collaboration will focus on three key areas:
• promoting multi-stakeholder partnerships and public-private cooperation to mobilise resources and share knowledge for inclusive growth,
• conducting joint studies with emphasis on parametric insurance for the coffee value chain in the African context,
• fostering dialogue and impact measurement among public and private stakeholders, including practical tools for assessing social and environmental outcomes.

The initiative is funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation under the EU Global Gateway program, dedicated to third countries development financing, and the Mattei Plan for Africa, launched by Italy's PM Giorgia Meloni (a EU-backed partnership model for Europe-Africa relations).
