MFF 2028-2034 : "Significant opportunities will be offered to support the LIFE Programme" (J. Roswall)

The next EU budget "will offer significant opportunities to support the EU Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE) activities in the 2028-2034, compatible with a streamlined structure of the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF)", said Jessika Roswall on 13/01/2026.

The Commissionner for climate, circular economy and water resilience was answering a written question submitted by Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy (MEP /Renew/Netherlands) on 15/11/2025, who was expressing concerns about the future of the LIFE programme, which "would be merged into broader instruments, creating uncertainty over the continuity of direct EU support for Nature restoration projects".

According to the MEP, "the disappearance or restructuring of the LIFE programme risks creating a significant gap in financing and undermining progress towards the objectives of the Nature Restoration Regulation".

Jessika Roswall assured that "the Commission proposal for the next MFF includes an ambitious 35% climate and environment spending target, aiming at mobilising over €700 Bn, including for biodiversity and Nature…
