Irena/ILO: 16.6 million jobs in renewable energies in 2024 (+2.3%)

16.6 million: that's the number of jobs in the renewable energy sector worldwide in 2024, according to the new edition of the "Renewable Energy and Jobs" report published by the International Renewable Energy Agency and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on 11/01/2026. This number is 2.3% higher than in 2023.

" Despite record capacity additions in 2024, job growth has been held back by economies of scale, automation and other forms of technological innovation, overcapacity in equipment manufacturing, as well as grid bottlenecks leading to limitations in electricity production," the report states.

The development of jobs in the renewable energy sectors is uneven across the world. China leads the way, with 7.3 million jobs in the sector, or 44% of the total in 2024. The EU will have a total of 1.8 million, the same number as in 2023. Brazil will have 1.4 million, India 1.3 million and the United States 1.1 million.
