"We call for a further stimulation of the demand for recycled plastic" (Plastics Recyclers Europe)

"The measures presented by the European Commission to support the plastic recycling sector in December 2025 are of course positive and we fully support them. They represent an important first step and a targeted response to address the wave of closures of European plastic recycling facilities. A competitive Europe depends on a robust circular economy, and plastic recycling is an important pillar of the transition towards making plastics fully circular", declared Plastics Recyclers Europe to News Tank on 09/01/2026.

"Looking ahead, the Circular Economy Act should address the remaining challenges, such as the need to boost waste collection and sorting and the increase of the use of recyclates in new products, while improving the economics of waste management through harmonised Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes. Plastics Recyclers Europe calls on the Act to further stimulate demand for recycled plastics by reinforcing market certainty and supporting a resilient, competitive European recycling industry", they add.
